This artwork is a sculpted conversation showing two figures with a barrier between them. It is a reminder that to have good conversations, which leads to greater understanding, takes an investment of time, curiosity and sensitivity. My artwork is very relevant with 2024 being an election year in the US as discussions around politics could escalate. Hot topics like religion, race, LGBTQ+, politics, mental health, socio-economics and world events are always difficult, especially where differing viewpoints and experiences are held. This installation will have a place to sit where conversations can begin. The seating provided will be sturdy and anchored into the ground.
My ArtPath Proposal of “The Conversation” is a piece to promote healthy dialogue.
Making art that is both personal and universal is a huge challenge. Making something that is too universal can lack power that a personal connection holds. My artwork, often is me talking to myself while others “listen” in, viewing and engaging with my pieces. I endeavor to create visual art that captures a moment and though it is quiet, will speak out, holding deep conversations, with viewers, over time.
