Main Gallery: Preserved Fragments by Benjamin Clore and Lisa Truax
Reception: Friday, July 10, 2009, 7 - 9 PM
Benjamin Clore and Lisa Truax will exhibit their artworks in the Main Gallery. The exhibit explores the concept of human instincts and their affect of daily life and contemporary culture. Clore’s main concentration lies i the instinct to collect and gather objects, while Truax’s focus remains on the inherent human connection to nature and how that contrasts with contemporary culture.
While some distinction exists in the materials and working methods of the two artists, their artworks towards similar means. The exhibit displays the burden placed on humans through the destruction of the environment and the compulsion to accumulate materials things. Clore holds a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics from Western Washington University and Lisa Truax holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Carthage College. Both Clore and Truax are currently Master of Fine Arts candidates in Ceramics at Michigan State University.

Mezzanine Gallery: Array by Jessica Klumpp Held

Jessica Klumpp Held holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Photography from Ohio University. Her exhibit entitled “Array”emphasizes the environment and explores the relationship between humans and nature. The imagery of her paintings and photographs emphasize the need for equality, both with in our species and in relation to our surroundings. Her art challenges the viewer to re‐evaluate their lifestyle as it relates to the environment. Ms. Klumpp Held explores a variety of materials in her paintings. Her photographs are details of her paintings and some are lit from behind. A selection of both painting and photographs may be enjoyed.
