Michelle Carlson, named Executive Director

Dear Gallery Community,
On behalf of the Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center’s Board of Directors, I am honored to announce that Michelle Carlson has been selected to serve as the new Executive Director for Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center. Michelle has been serving as Acting Executive Director since March 9, and before that, Michelle served as the Education Director since 2017.
Michelle has over 20 years of experience in arts administration and event planning and is well-suited to continue the work where former Executive Director Barb Whitney left off. She has a Master of Public Administration with specialized training in non-profit management and a Spanish Language degree.
During her tenure, Michelle has led access to the arts through educational mission-driven programs. I’m most proud of Art Ability Bags, Art Alliance, and ArtPath Artist Talks. These programs are an integral part of the gallery’s work that ignites a passion for the visual arts, providing a forum for self-expression and community engagement. Together with the Gallery’s exhibitions and retail Gallery, these projects demonstrate how the Gallery shares arts experiences with the greater community. The initiatives are a launchpad for new modes of expression that can help all forms of connections with art.
I am happy to share that we have extended our lease in our new space in the Knapp’s Building. We are excited to have a place to call home while we figure out what the next steps will be. I invite you to visit the new gallery and begin a conversation by contacting Michelle at michelle@lansingartgallery.org.
I look forward to our continued work with the arts community.
Sincerely,
Keith Rouse, President
Board of Directors
