Leadership Transition – Exciting News!
I have great news! I have accepted a new role to serve as Associate Director of Development, Cultural Arts for Michigan State University. In this new position, I’ll be supporting the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum and the MSU Museum.
A place in my heart has been filled by Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center since 2004 when my husband, Jon, and I returned to the area from Detroit. I was immersed in nonprofit management under the direction of Catherine Babcock. In 2014, I joined a legacy of executive directors who have led our organization.
With your help, we’ve increased arts access while nearly doubling operations and creating annual surplus. We’ve survived the greatest financial crisis in a generation and now a global pandemic. Against all odds, we’ve increased revenue through innovative tactics: a new online store and public art programs.
We rose to the occasion again in 2021. Despite a surprise move mandate last fall, we secured a new location in a historic landmark building that showcases our Michigan artists. As we look to the future, our momentum is great; our potential is unlimited.
With the support of our outstanding Board of Directors and staff team, Michelle Carlson will serve as Acting Executive Director upon my departure, on April 1. I am thrilled for our organization and for Michelle, who has repeatedly demonstrated mission-driven strategic vision and generous spirit.
You’ve lifted up this organization through your voices, attendance, and financial support. I am incredibly grateful for your engagement, advice, and involvement. I will continue to support as a patron and donor. Feel free to email me before April 1 at barb@lansingartgallery.org, or call or text my cell anytime: (517) 883-1435.
I wish you all the best and look forward to staying in touch!
