Our History

Representing Michigan Artists since 1965, in a progressive move to provide Michigan’s capital city with a showplace for original art forms, a handful of dedicated artists joined forces in the fall of 1965 and created the Lansing Community Art Gallery, later shortened to the Lansing Art Gallery. Lansing Art Gallery became incorporated shortly thereafter.
The cooperative efforts of these hard-working artists and art educators gave the City of Lansing its first permanent art gallery. Within a year and a half, the number of participating artists had risen from the original six to well over one hundred, and visiting patrons filled the Gallery to capacity at its monthly receptions.
Currently located in the heart of downtown Lansing at 300 South Washington Square, the Gallery continues its spirit of community through many services and cultural programs.
