Sculpture | Doug DeLind | Mason, MI
About This Installation
"My model and inspiration for Cat Bench is Shirley the cat, my studio mate. We have shared the studio for the past 15 years with many discussions and few disagreements.
I hope my bench makes you smile and please take a seat."
Artist Bio
Doug DeLind has been working as a professional artist for 45 years and currently works out of his Mason, MI-based studio. Doug received his BFA in sculpture and an MFA in ceramics, both from Michigan State University. He works in clay and the raku firing process to create sculptures and non-functional ceramics that range from small animals to large-scale figurative work
Speaking of his work Doug says "My mentor was Louis Raynor who taught ceramics and told fishing stories at MSU. Since graduating from MSU in 1976 I have been fortunate to be able to share my creations and make my living as an artist for the past 45 years.
I still enjoy creating new ideas and sharing them. I am inspired in my work by ancient and basic civilizations and children's art. I find purity in ancient art, a directness in the art of basic civilizations, and joy in children's artwork. I hope you enjoy my work."
