Artist Statement
This work is an interactive, site specific work that encourages community engagement. Craig states: "One generation plants acorns, the next enjoys the shade. Enter the Leaf Gate. Slowly walk the large spiral, defined on the grassy knoll by oak leaves painted on the grass. Consider how you will leave this place better than when you came. Make a statement. Thread a twig through a leaf. Press the twig into the ground along the spiral, flag-like."
This work is inspired by the work of English artist Andy Goldsworthy. Goldsworthy uses nature, in nature, to create his art. As his art ages, nature reclaims the natural materials used in its creation.
