A Local Phenomenon presents a unique viewpoint on an economic reality of Lansing - underutilized or unoccupied commercial spaces. Jane uses her photographs of these spaces as a canvas for intricate Zentangle-inspired patterns. Connecting these pieces by stitching, or crocheting them together, brings visual excitement to the viewer.
Jane says, "The message behind the exhibit’s meaning---reflection upon waste and neglect in the Lansing area---is experienced immediately and in real time by the viewer. The beauty of tangle patterns contrasts with the sad, soulless places in the photographs. I thank Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas of Zentangle for teaching me this wonderful meditative process that adds much to my drawings."
