Cost: $75 ($70 members) / 4 half-day sessions.
Lunch supervision: $5 per day.
Open to all skill levels.
Maximum class size: 15 students.

Summer Art Camp students will learn and experience creativity in the professional setting of Lansing Art Gallery. Young artists will explore creative processes, techniques and materials with the guidance of trained artists. Each series of classes will culminate in a student art show in Lansing Art Gallery’s Student Gallery!
Students enrolling in both AM and PM sessions must have supervision during the lunch hour.
Lunch Supervision: $5 per day

Week 1 – June 23-26
AM Camp: Mandala Mixed Media with Jane Reiter – CLASS FULL
“Mandala” is a Sanskrit word loosely translated to mean “circle.” Radial designs have existed in numerous cultures since human beginnings. Artist Jane Reiter will guide students in creating their own special mandalas using paint, recycled materials, and collage.
PM Camp: Clay with Kathe Smith – CLASS FULL
Ceramic artist Kathe Smith will teach students the fundamentals of air-dry clay through the creation of painted tiles for use as name plates or wall hangings. Students will also explore polymer clay in the form of beads.
Week 2 – July 7-10
AM Camp: Still Life Drawing with Tedda Hughes – CLASS FULL
Artist Tedda Hughes teaches students the fundamentals of drawing through still lifes of toys. Students will become familiar with various types of drawing papers and tools including charcoal and conte.
PM Camp: Multiples & Duplicates Mixed Media with Anne Grevstad
Instructor Anne Grevstad will guide students in variations on a single image, using paint, printmaking, and collage. Students will study concepts of color, shape, abstraction, and pattern to create multiple interpretations of animals, still life objects, architecture, and landscape.
Week 3 – July 21-24
AM Camp: Flower Power Mixed Media with Jane Reiter – CLASS FULL
Artist Jane Reiter will guide students through an exploration of flowers as a source of artistic inspiration. Students will examine examples of floral art and create 2D and 3D designs through drawing, watercolor, collage, tiles, and rubber stamps.
PM Camp: Watercolor Painting with Paloma Rosales – CLASS FULL
Artist Paloma Rosales will teach students various techniques of watercolor through the many forms of tropical jungle animals. Tree frogs, bugs, reptiles, monkeys, big cats – from the tiny to the large, the cute and the scary, students will explore the creatures of the jungle.
Week 4 – August 4-7
AM Camp: Weaving Techniques with Kathy Popoff – CLASS FULL
Fiber artist Kathy Popoff will teach students to warp a frame loom and create a tapestry wall hanging. Frame looms will go home with students after camp. Students will also work on rigid heddle looms to create bookmarks and woven pieces used in a set of greeting cards.
PM Camp: Acrylic Painting with Tedda Hughes – CLASS FULL
Artist Tedda Hughes will help students explore acrylic paint through the world of plants and animals. Students will learn to mix and blend paints, using various types of brushes, rags, and sponges to apply paint to various painting surfaces such as paper, wood, and canvas.
