"Thread" by Jane Kramer
November 1-7, 2012
Community Reception: November 4, 1-4 PM
Artist Discussion: November 4, 1:15-1:45 PM.
“An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet regardless of time, place, or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break.”
-Chinese Proverb
Thread is the artist's interpretation of her struggle with infertility and the adoption process. The installation will feature photographs of red thread printed on silk and hung from the ceiling by one continuous piece of thread. Visitors may cut, manipulate, or burn their own piece of thread.
The artist talk will focus on infertility, adoption, and the artistic process of the installation. There will be a children's art activity related to the red thread in an adjoining room from 1:15-2:15 PM, led by Lansing Art Gallery volunteer, Jane Schneider.
Thread is supported in part by an Individual Artist Grant from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.
