NON-PROFIT NEWS RELEASE
Local Artist Creates Family-Friendly Exhibit for Community

Animal ArtVenture April 29 - June 23, 2011
Community Reception April 29, 7 - 9 PM

Kate Cosgrove considers it a “serious mission to spread some joy with the work” she creates. Kate is an illustrator and fine artist from Michigan. She received a bachelor’s of fine art, with honors, from Michigan State University. Kate’s illustrations have been published in books, magazines, newspapers, and exhibited in galleries and art shows. Kate’s patrons range across the United States, as well as internationally.

Although Kate has exhibited her fine art at Lansing Art Gallery in the past, she returns this spring with her whimsical illustrations. Kate’s current exhibit, ArtVenture, exposes young people to her illustrations. Kate states, “I was born into a family where everyone makes something: art, music, food, clothing, noise, a mess... I found I like to make messes and art at a very early age. I expect to keep doing both until I draw my last breath. I’m a lucky girl.” In her exhibit, Kate thrives on the opportunity to show an exhibit of whimsical illustrations and is hoping to “pay-forward” the inspiration she received as a young artist.

A recent recipient of the individual artist grant program through the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, Kate will contrast miniature illustrations with large-scale reproductions of the artwork. In addition, Kate will provide an interactive mural project, which will take place during Downtown Lansing’s, Be A Tourist in Your Own Town on June 4th.
