Local Artist and Administrator features bronze sculptures

Daydream Characters
April 29 - June 23, 2011

Community Reception
April 29, 7 - 9 PM

Jeffrey Bohl, Principal of the Capital Area Career Center, creates bronze sculptures with his own highly involved creative process. He creates distressed wax objects and then assembles them into unique figurative forms. He then makes molds and pours 2100-degree molten bronze into them at his home studio using homemade equipment to create the final pieces. The resulting sculptures are the product of many hours spent enjoying the creative process and the craftsmanship of making finished bronzes.

Jeffrey’s training and experiences in art, engineering, mathematics, research, and education allow him to enjoy all forms of creative processes. Jeffrey states, “to me, creativity is all about making novel connections and inferences. It requires seeing things afresh, leaning as little as possible on preconceptions and preformed expectations.” This shows in the novel images he creates.

Jeffrey’s one-of-a-kind figurative bronzes will be on display at Lansing Art Gallery through June 23. During the community reception on April 29, several pieces of his homemade foundry equipment will be on display along with a 10-minute presentation showing the entire process of making bronze sculptures.
