Lansing Art Gallery selected for over $42,000 in local Arts & Cultural Grant Awards
Mayor Virg Bernero announced today that Lansing Art Gallery was selected as a recipient for funds under the Lansing Economic Development Corporation’s arts and culture grant program. Recent Cultural Economic Development Plan’s findings encourage support of arts and culture. “Encouraging a diverse arts and cultural community in Lansing is vital to our efforts to create sustainable growth,” Mayor Bernero said. The grants support excellence in a wide range of artistic and cultural disciplines.
Lansing Art Gallery will direct funds received toward programming, which will provide awareness, education and enjoyment of the visual arts by promoting the works of Michigan artists. Lansing Art Gallery’s awarded projects include: “Art in Action”- a three part program, which focuses on visual arts education and appreciation, and “City Streets Exhibition,” - which offers an interactive visual journey through the pedestrian corridors of downtown Lansing.
Executive Director, Catherine Babcock, states, “During a time in which many cities are struggling, it is heartwarming to see this level of arts and cultural support maintained. I am excited about implementing the programs for both grants; each will expand Lansing Art Gallery’s education outreach and audience for the visual arts in our city.”
