Job Opportunity: Gallery Associate
Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center seeks a Gallery Associate, who is eager to serve as a brand ambassador for the organization, ensuring that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with our mission to provide “public awareness, education and enjoyment of the visual arts by promoting the works of Michigan artists.”


– A passion for the arts and the non profit sector
– Creative background including but not limited to academic or professional arts experience
– Exceptional communication, goal oriented and inter-personal skills
– An extensive background in customer service
– Attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to multitask
– Ability to work with team members to meet the strategic objectives of the organization
– Initiative and motivation to work independently
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office
– Point of Sale experience
– At least 2-3 years of relevant work experience

Job Description:

1. Reception

• Greet clientele, answer telephone, and respond to emails
• Be a knowledgeable source of information on the gallery’s programs
• Assist customers with custom order requests
• Provide excellent customer service at all times

2. Gallery/Exhibitions

• Be a knowledgeable source of information on artists in the gallery shop and exhibition areas
• Process sales of artwork (including lease/purchase sales) in the gallery shop and exhibition areas and maintain artwork inventory
• Install artwork and create displays, including the creation of title cards and artist bios as needed, as well as maintaining window displays
• Assist artists with the check in and pick up of artwork
• Serve as a point of contact with exhibiting artists when needed
• Assist the Exhibitions and Gallery Sales Director with exhibition prep and installation as needed

3. Other

• Ensure gallery cleanliness and orderliness at all times, including regular dusting and cleaning of artwork and displays, vacuuming, and general tidying
• Keep back room and artwork storage areas neat and orderly
