Late StART Wednesdays provide a valuable resource to parents who wish to expand their child’s opportunities for educational enrichment in the arts.

Artist in Residence Program
Lansing Art Gallery’s Artist in Residence program offers elementary students an opportunity to explore art with a professional working artist in their school’s setting during the regular school day. The Artist in Residence program enhances a school’s existing art program while introducing artist perspectives. For the past three years, Lansing Art Gallery has provided art workshops to K-6th graders at Cole Academy Charter School in Lansing. Professional artists guide the students in creating artwork in a variety of media including fiber, printmaking, collage, sculpture, clay, and painting. Workshops culminate in an all-school art exhibition at Lansing Art Gallery. The program provides an art-based learning experience while teaching core curriculum and life-enhancing skills. Students learn vocabulary related to Elements of Art and Principles of Design. The program teaches the use of art-making materials while encouraging youth to be imaginative, creative, and confident. The Artist in Residence Program follows the Michigan Department of Education Arts Content Standards and Benchmarks for Visual Arts, as well as the National Standards for Arts Education.
