Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center seeks a goal-oriented and dynamic motivated individual to join our team as the new Education Director! The Education Director will serve as a brand ambassador for the organization’s educational programming in support of our mission to provide “public awareness, education and enjoyment of the visual arts by promoting the works of Michigan artists.”

Job Description: The Education Director will oversee and promote Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center’s educational programs, including but not limited to: tours, demonstrations, instructional opportunities, student exhibitions, and educational components related to gallery exhibitions. Additional opportunities may be available to expand existing educational programming. The Education Director supervises teaching artists, interns, and volunteers and ensures that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center’s mission and strategic plan. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Director may also be called upon to assist with special projects.

Schedule: Position is part time (up to 29 hrs per week) Monday – Friday with some flexibility; approximately 10 special events required annually, including occasional nights and weekends. Additional opportunities exist to expand educational programming and to increase the role of the Education Director based upon increased program revenue, memberships, and other sources of income to support the position.

Duties include oversight for all educational programming, including:
• Develop schedules, budgets, evaluation, and communications for all programs.
• Interview, hire, supervise, and schedule teaching artists, interns and volunteers.
• Foster relationships with Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center stakeholders.
• Develop and disseminate communications related to educational programs.
• Oversee and coordinate application, jury, and notification process; artwork intake, installation, framing (as required) and removal of student exhibitions, including rotating Student Art Gallery.
• Maintain records of attendees, applicants, exhibiting artists, scholarship winners, and donors.
• Perform administrative duties related to fund development. (e.g. coordination of monetary and supply awards, cash and in-kind donations, sponsorships and grant reports).
• Coordinate and attend events, including but not limited to East Lansing Art Festival, Be A Tourist in Your Own Town, student award presentations, and hands-on activities within Gallery exhibitions.
• Oversee on-site classes, including registration (including scholarships) and emergency information.
• Oversee field trip schedule, scheduling and/or providing guided tours.

Physical demands
• While performing the essential duties of this job physical mobility is required, including standing, walking, lifting, and bending. Typing/data entry required. Prolonged periods of sitting/standing required.

Qualifications (please evidence these in your application materials!):
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of higher education and experience in arts, arts education, arts administration or related
• Minimum 2 years of related experience in arts, arts education, arts administration or related
• A passion for visual arts education
• Ability to work with team members to meet the strategic objectives of the organization
• Proven ability to develop arts education programs
• Initiative to meet budget goals, timelines, and support programmatic growth
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
• Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire others
• Ability to prioritize, delegate, and multitask
• Flexibility and a “can-do” attitude
• Attention to detail, organizational skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Preference given to candidates with experience in the following:
o arts education, arts, and/or non-profit sector
o social media, graphic design, website management, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or sales platforms
o artwork installation
o fund development
