Stephen states, “the use of crutches for my fish represent what humans are doing to the oceans and the fish of the world. By using vintage pieces for the insides of my fish I am in a sense reusing items that might otherwise be tossed aside. “

Born in California, Steve was raised by a poet and a painter. Although Stephen’s exhibition is mixed media, he has worked in Batik, photography, and glass.

January 4th - February 8th
Join us for a Community Reception January 4th, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

Lansing Art Gallery is pleased to present a Gallery Shop feature; Angles of Perception by Michael Maurer Smith. This feature is an exploration of geometry through both paintings and photographs.

Michael states, “My photographs and paintings address the intersection of humanity and nature.
They explore, record and show the trace and poignancy of the human presence in the world. They also have in common, my attention to the geometry of the picture—the shapes and angles that are actual, implied and metaphoric—visible and perceived—the geometric grammar and composition which engenders form, meaning and beauty.”

Threadlines by Dolores Slowinski

January 4th - February 8th
Join us for a Community Reception on January 4th, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

Lansing Art Gallery is pleased to present Threadlines by Dolores S. Slowinski. Threadlines is a contemporary look at the relationship between thread and paper.

Dolores states, “I begin by making large holes in paper with an industrial sewing machine to outline shapes. The infill drawing is done by hand, spontaneously… I enjoy the contrast of the industrial perforation with the delicate handwork; the loud, clashing speed of the one process with the silent meditative pace of the other.”

With a BFA in Weaving and Ceramics from Wayne State University, Dolores has exhibited in many galleries across Michigan after her active career as an arts administrator and writer.
